Fans have witnessed many versions of Borussia Dortmund—some explosive, others rebuilding. But the 2025 edition? It’s different. The Dortmund team is currently confident, vibrant, and aggressive. Another new generation of world-class players is making it with strong appeal at home and on the international scene.
The path of Dortmund to the FIFA Club World Cup was legendary. They defeated Monterrey, Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns but lost in a narrow 3-2 quarter-final to Real Madrid. Despite that loss, Dortmund continues to rule home turfs with huge victories against Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and VfL Wolfsburg.
To illustrate how successful the team is, we will rank the five Borussia Dortmund players that spearhead the club and display the fighting spirit of the club, technical abilities and international outlook.
1. Serhou Guirassy – The Goal Machine
Position: Forward | Age: 28 | Nationality: Guinea
Guirassy is killing it this season! He is also unstoppable since he transferred to Dortmund from Stuttgart, scoring 21 goals in 30 matches. This is almost one goal per game and a half, which is the dream of any striker.
It is not his finish that makes Guirassy so special. He is hard in the air, he never stops off the ball and he is never out of the box. He averages 0.73 goals without penalty per 90 minutes, which makes him one of the most productive strikers in Europe.
And he could not have come at a better time. Dortmund had to get a reliable goalscorer and Guirassy did it. Provided that he remains healthy, he might take them far in the Champions League.
2. Karim Adeyemi – The Speedster with Skill
Position: Forward/Midfielder | Age: 22 | Nationality: German
Adeyemi is the speedster of Dortmund. He is able to steal the ball on the wing and outdo the opponents before they know what has hit them and this is a challenge to the rival defenses. It is seriously impressive that his 2025 stats already read 7 goals and 6 assists in just about 1,400 minutes on the pitch.
He is also top in the league in successful dribbles and progressive carries so he is not only fast but he can actually beat the defenders. People assume that his style is similar to that of Vinicius Jr. and Bukayo Saka, and that is why people tend to compare him with them.
The outstanding thing is that he is so deadly attacking. A single play may alter an entire game.
3. Gio Reyna – The Comeback Creator
Position: Midfielder | Age: 21 | Nationality: USA
Reyna spent a bad phase of 2023 full of injuries and a short spell at Nottingham Forest, Reyna has returned to Dortmund. He has already bagged 2 goals in 16 games this season and he is indicating that he is regaining his form.
It is his creativity that impresses people. Reyna excels at locating teammates with precision passes and creating space. Although he does not get a lot of playing time, his numbers (0.51 goals per 90 minutes) demonstrate that he could be worth his salary at any moment when he enters the pitch.
With Marco Reus no longer at the club, Dortmund needs a new creative player. Reyna is the one —if he stays fit and confident, he could claim that mantle.
4. Maximilian Beier – The Breakout Star
Position: Forward/Midfielder | Age: 21 | Nationality: Germany
Each year, Borussia Dortmund appears to snatch an outstanding player. This year, such a player is Maximilian Beier. He has played out there approximately 1,500 minutes and he has already scored 8 goals and 5 assists in the score table.
Although he has not played that many minutes in the Bundesliga, Beier surely knows what he is doing. He doesn’t dribble as much as Adeyemi, but he makes clever runs and is efficient with his touches. He can also shine on the world stage, as he scored with both feet at the Club World Cup with 1.06 goals per 90 minutes.
He reminds many of Kai Havertz but is more direct in front of the goal. His expected goal (xG) numbers also back up his form, proving he’s getting into the right positions consistently.

By 2025, Dortmund is a unique team since its attackers are all flexible. Guirassy is the finisher. The dribbler is Adeyemi. The passer is Reyna. The breakthrough is Beier. The variety of their styles leaves the opponents guessing what comes next and keeps Dortmund dangerous.
