Bumrah Joins Elite List with 13th Five-Wicket Haul, Outpaces Kapil Dev

Jasprit Bumrah five five-wicket haul at Lords 2025

India has always been a land of batting stalwarts—from Gavaskar to Sachin, Dravid to Kohli, and Rohit—worshipped and loved not only for runs but for the aura the bat brought with their name. The scorecard continuously overshadowed bowlers who were match winners, reducing them to mere numbers—overs, runs, and wickets. Consistency? Accuracy? Craft? Rarely celebrated. That tide is turning, and the whole credit goes to none other than Jasprit Bumrah.

What sets Bumrah apart is his innovation and adaptation. He does not fit into the classic mold of bowlers. He is redefining fast bowling with his short run-up and unique bowling action and maximum torque.

A 5-wicket haul at the Home of Cricket

What we witnessed on the second day of the 3rd test match was not merely a stellar bowling spell. It was the display of Bumrah’s greatness. England started the day with Root’s century, aiming for 400. Stokes was looking solid and eyeing his 1st fifty of the series, then Bumrah came and changed the whole scenario.

It was a proper setup for Stokes. Siraj was bowling him over the wicket continuously, and Bumrah came in the next over from around the wicket. First, he hit him for a four and got humbled by the man himself. One of the greats of English batting, Root is now in Bumrah’s pocket. He dismissed him for the 11th time, the most by any bowler.

4 out of 5 wickets were bowled; that was categorically graceful to watch in any format. He breached the defense, rattled the stumps, stunned the batters, and awestruck the audience. It was box office; whenever he held the ball, it was like a computer calibrating all the possibilities. He executed them with absolute precision.

Record day for Bumrah at the Lord’s

Many records were broken and made on the second day of the 3rd match. With his terrific 5-fer, Bumrah etched his name in history and on the honors board of the Lords. When he bowled, he made others look ordinary, like they were playing on a different pitch.

The pitch was flat, no help for bowlers at all, and the way he dismantled the batters with his ruthless bowling is inexplicable and commendable. He is not just sitting with the legends but at the top of every bowling list. He is not the difference maker; he is the standard.

Jasprit Bumrah’s average at home and in SENA countries does not make much of a difference. The only difference is the number of matches.

At home, he played 23 innings and had 47 wickets at an average of 17.19.

In SENA countries, he played 61 innings and had 158 wickets at an average of 19.47.

Beyond the numbers and records

Numbers can never truly define the impact, skills, and aura of a player. Records are meant to be broken, and numbers are for deception. There are many great players whose greatness can’t be defined by the data.

VVS Laxman, his numbers don’t scream “greatness,” but he always delivered in clutch situations. Jacques Kallis is the greatest all-rounder the game has ever seen. His numbers are enough to tell his greatness, but still, he is underappreciated.

Bumrah’s greatness goes far beyond the wickets and average. His numbers are impressive, but they don’t capture how and when he did it. The precision, timing, and how he turned the game on his own. He always delivered in high-pressure situations, when others ran out of ideas.

Shifts the cultural gravity of India

Every ball is an event when Bumrah has the ball in hand. The anticipation, the chaos, the silence—it’s cinema. The aura he brings is not just hype; it’s hard-earned and well-deserved. India always remembers the centuries, but now they remember Bumrah’s theatrical spells.

You can certainly count Bumrah’s five-fors and record his averages over the continents, but it won’t tell you the whole story. You wouldn’t know the pressure he puts on the opposing side, the calmness he brings to his own side, or the belief he gives the team. That is why Jasprit Bumrah is not just a world-class fast bowler; he is a phenomenon that goes beyond stats.
