WPL came as a blessing for Women’s cricket, as it provided many talented and skilled players to the Indian team and other countries as well. It made a huge impact on the minds of little girls across the country. In its first season (2023), it went beyond the expectations of everyone. It provided momentum to revolutionize Women’s Cricket in the very first edition.
Many people wonder why WPL is so necessary for the growth of women in this beautiful sport. As we all know, India loves cricket so much, and treats this game as their religion, sees it with utmost love and passion, and considers its players as their own; they feel a connection with them.
IPL is the perfect example of this statement; it’s been 16 years, and it is the most successful and biggest league in the world. It gives us so many talented and future stars such as Bumrah, Ishan, Hardik, Chahal, and many more. WPL is going to play the same role and will help Women’s cricket to reach new heights and wings to fly high and achieve all the success.
Now, Indian women cricketers have the experience of playing in crowded stadiums and know how to control their nerves in difficult situations, all thanks to the WPL. Youngsters like Shafali, Sarvani, Shreyanka, Kanika, and Saika learn to deal with the highs and lows of the game from Lanning, Healy, Perry, Divine, and so many legendary players and coaches.
Shreyanka had a wonderful season with bat and ball, Kanika played some crucial knocks as a middle-order batter for RCB, and Saika played a vital role in leading MI to its first title win. These young talents lit up the stadiums with their power-packed batting and bowling performances.
Kashvee Gautam
In the recent season of WPL, Gujarat Giants’ pace bowling all-rounder had everyone in awe. She missed the last season and made sure to come back with a bang this season. No one can forget when she hit the winning six on Shabnam Ismail’s ball. She also celebrated in front of her, an uncapped Indian doing all of it in the face of the fastest bowler of women’s cricket was a sight to watch. Gautam impressed everyone with her controlled line, length, and speed variations.
She can constantly attack the stumps, can swing the ball, and can do the power hitting down the order. In this WPL, she is the leading Indian wicket-taker with 11 wickets at an economy of 6.45. Her dismissal of Lanning was one of the best moments of WPL. You have to be at your very best to beat and bowl one of the greatest batters of Women’s cricket. Kashvee has all the skills needed and the potential to be India’s next star all-rounder.
Shreyanka Patil
The star all-rounder of India made her debut for RCB in the inaugural season of WPL in 2023. She has established herself as the key player for the Indian team in a 2-year short span. Patil earned her position in the team by continuously performing in domestic and WPL. She clinched 19 wickets in two seasons, unfortunately, didn’t play this year due to injury.
Out of those 19 wickets, she took 13 in the last season and had a key contribution to RCB’s maiden title win. The one thing that would make her one of the best all-rounders in the future is that she thrives under pressure. There are so many moments in WPL, where she rises under pressure and snatches the victories for her team.
Saika Ishaque
The Mumbai Indians star and asset of the 2023 title win, Saika Ishaque, was one of the biggest revelations of this league. She took a 4-fer in her debut match and a total of 15 wickets at a mind-blowing economy of 7 in 10 matches. She grew up playing cricket on the streets of Kolkata, and her father was her biggest supporter.
She wreaked havoc with her left-arm spin bowling in the 2023 WPL and dismissed some of the big names of the league, such as Sophie Devine, Meg Lanning, Healy, and Shafali Verma. In the 2025 season, her form took a bad dip, and she didn’t do well. You cannot write the name off of a skilled player like her, because she knows how to make a comeback.
Titas Sadhu
She is the hero of the U-19 World Cup and had a major contribution to India’s maiden U-19 title win. She showcased her temperament and performed best under pressure when she delivered her match-winning spell of 2/6 in four overs in the final of the U-19 World Cup.
Sadhu is a prodigy and one of the brightest young talents of Indian women’s Cricket. With the ability to hit the deck hard, swing the ball, and maturity beyond her age, she stands one level above the others.Although she joined Delhi Capitals, she has yet to make her on-field debut in 2025 and has no WPL stats this season.
Shree Charani
The star of India’s first win over the hosts in the ongoing series between England and India. Charani’s dream debut spell of 4/12 in 3.5 overs made her the second Indian after S Naidu’s 4/9 in 3 overs against Bangladesh. Her memorable spell in India’s thumping win of 97 runs over England made it the 4th largest victory in terms of runs.
She dismantles England’s experienced batting line-up with her variations in pace. In the 2nd of the series, she secured 2 wickets and helped in taking the lead of 2-0 in the series. She showed a lot of promise and potential in this series, and it will be interesting to watch how she performs in the remaining matches.
